ASINGAN TOWN PLAZA

Imahe
ARYA ASINGAN ! Our town plaza may not be perfect in its over all design, but to an artist or a painter who usually perceives beauty in what others may seem to be plain or even ugly it has certain points to be admired. For me, these would be the trees that I have seen for the first time..The acacia trees have grotesque shapes some other trees have these peculiar root systems. But these are natural growths and many believe that Mother Nature is still the best Artist of them all

URDANETA MUNICIPAL HALL

Imahe
There are many versions on how Urdaneta City officially became URDANETA. One theory suggests its original name is ORGANITA, roughly meaning “litle organ or unit.” This is plausible as it was then a composite of portions of barrios of the adjacent towns where they converged to create one composite pueblo. Some of the theorists, the so-called purists, belie this by saying that the Spanish root word is organo; therefore, the right word should be organito. These theorists cite education at that time was centered in the Poblacion and the people in the hinterlands were neglected, thus resulting to bad grammar. Another contention was that the first “cura parroco” of the town, Fr. Nicolas Alonzo Manrique, during the organization of the publeo in January 8, 1858, named the town “Urdaneta”, in honor of another friar, Fr. Andres de Urdaneta. Fr. Urdaneta was the spiritual adviser of the expedition led by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi which arrived in Cebu to explore the country on April 27, 1565.

URDANETA CITY MARKET

Imahe
The City of Urdaneta, earned its name as the “Bagsakan (trading post)" City of the Pangasinan because it serves as a drop-off point of the various fruits and vegetables coming from the different municipalities in Pangasinan and nearby provinces. The city’s bagsakan center, just like in the Divisioria market, practice free enterprise, wherein nobody controls the price unlike in some areas where a group of people control the price. Sometimes, the food staples traded here are sold up to 12 percent cheaper prices. Vegetables, such as tomatoes, pechay, onions, string beans, okra, eggplants and ampalaya from Pangasinan municipalities, and fruits, such as pomelo and banana of Davao, Batangas lanzones and dalandan of Laguna, are sold daily in the city’s bagsakan market. Traders and market vendors from within Luzon come to this city to buy goods and sell these to the different towns in Pangasinan and other Luzon provinces.

MARANUM FALLS

Imahe
Maranum Falls is located along a rock-filled stream inside a forested area on the foothills of the Caraballo Mountains. There is a cleared trail to the falls but that meant no cover from the scorching sun along the way. The waterfall can be reached through a 2-km paved road along the Viray River. At the end of the road, where a trail to the waterfall begins, is a wide parking space. One can take a ... leisurely hike to the falls under the cool shade of thousands of alibangbang (Iloco for "butterfly") trees lining the hillside.

Maria became a separate town again in 1877. Nevertheless, when the Americans arrived in 1903, Santa Maria was fused with Tayug again, owing to financial problems, like before. During the Spanish Regime, a priest came to a village located on a plain where the Agno River ran. With a little effort, he believed the area could be irrigated and developed into a prosperous community. Finding the residents to be hospitable, he chatted with them and, in the course of conversation, he thought of giving the place a name. That day was the Virgin Mary's day, so he called the people of the village to gather and with a simple but solemn ceremo
